Expect an unexpected Kreskin sighting

Illusionist will appear at the AARP gathering, but when is a surprise

You wonÕt find the Amazing Kreskin on the impressive list of celebrity speakers for the AARP convention in Las Vegas.

But the mentalist ÒpredictsÓ heÕll make a surprise appearance at some point during the three-day event at the Sands Expo Center.

He just wonÕt say when exactly. Guess his fans will just have to make the psychic connection.

ÒI will be brought out when someone else is speaking,Ó says the 74-year-old performer, who has been doing mental tricks for more than 60 years.

Kreskin is on the phone from his home in Montclair, N.J., talking about his busy schedule — 198 dates last year — and the recent movie ÒThe Great Buck Howard,Ó starring John Malkovich and written by the mentalistÕs former road manager, Sean McGinly.

ÒThe first 18 minutes of the film is about me, the rest isnÕt, except that everything that happened on stage (as shown in the film) did happen to me,Ó Kreskin says.

The movie prompted Kreskin to write his 17th book, which he will sign and discuss for fans during the AARP convention.

ÒItÕs not a biography,Ó he says. ÒItÕs kind of a series of interesting vignettes,Ó like one of the 88 times he appeared on ÒThe Tonight Show Starring Johnny CarsonÓ and Orson Welles failed at an attempted psychic trick.

Kreskin still appears on TV. ÒI do 40 talk shows on radio and television between Christmas and New YearÕs, talking about how things are going to change,Ó he says.

But he still wouldnÕt say when he was going to make his appearance at the AARP convention.
